Gateshead College

Based in the North East of England, Gateshead College delivers education, training and Apprenticeships to school leavers and adults. We provide our students with what we call education with employment edge. This means making sure they leave us with both the qualifications and the real world skills that will set them up for the world of work and give them an edge in the jobs market.

Mental health and wellbeing sits at the very heart of this. Supporting our students to be emotionally resilient and to have the skills to cope with the challenges of every day life at home and work is essential for their futures. This is equally as important for our staff.

We’ve publicly pledged our commitment to change attitudes towards mental health, to end the stigma and to create a culture where people know its ok to talk about mental health and wellbeing knowing they will be supported whether they are a student, apprentice or member of staff. We signed the Time to Change Pledge in 2018 and were awarded an HRH Princess Royal Training Award in 2019 for our work in mental health.

This year we have restated our commitment to keep mental health firmly at the top of our agenda by signing the AoC’s Mental Health Pledge and are delighted to join forces with colleagues at Weston College and specialists from Somerset Counselling Centre, to work on this project and make a difference to not only our community, but the FE community across the country.
